Here’s Why The Browns Dropped Jermaine Whitehead

Jermaine Whitehead is the perfect example of how not to act on social media. After a few angry profanity-laced tweets, Twitter suspended his account and the Cleveland Browns dropped him from their roster.

So what happened?

Well first off the Browns lost a football game, but that’s hardly newsworthy. Second off, apparently Jermaine Whitehead missed a couple key tackles (He did have a broken hand). All of this is forgivable. The issue is in how you handle failure, which is all the more visible to the public thanks to social media. So how about we let the tweets speak for themselves below.

Letting things go from bad to worse.

Missing key tackles suck, but you can always bounce back. Losing a game sucks too, but Cleveland should be used to this by now. Here’s where things go wrong. You should never talk to random people on twitter who are attacking you when you’re in an emotional state. Here’s why.

I don’t really pay attention to much sports news and I almost never look at Cleveland Browns news. Losing every week is hardly newsworthy. But because Whitehead decided to go on his tirade, people are talking about him. ESPN is talking about him. Twitter is talking about him. Path To Manliness is talking about him. Had he just shut his phone off and gone home, he’d be an afterthought to everyone but die-hard Browns fans.

Here’s the other reason you shouldn’t talk to random twitter accounts attacking you. @HeHateMe234 (Shout out to the XFL!) has 443 followers but Jermaine Whitehead gave him a voice by responding. Now his account is on Sports Nation Ohio’s tweet to its 256k followers. Well done.

Twitter suspended Whitehead’s account after the threats to a fan and to 92.3 The Fan radio host Dustin Fox.

The following morning, The Cleveland Browns dropped Whitehead from their roster.

The Green Bay Packers previously released him for slapping an opponent in the head. Good luck to you Jermaine. I hope you find a solution to whatever makes you so angry.
